all of these may be correct. In some parts of the world this may indeed be true. the truth is these do not have to be true. Many times people have told me that they did not learn piano because of the above beliefs.
so are they true? not in my lessons they aren't. true if you want to pass exams, if you want to impress a local orchestra leader or get into college using your piano playing abilities you need the traditional route.
for most people who want to play for themselves, for their friends or family it is not necessary. learning to play piano for themselves can be accomplished in weeks not years. No scales, no music, no old songs. Just a few weeks and anyone can be playing their favorite songs.
once learned it is learned and won't be forgotten. A foolproof method using short lessons and practice exercises taking only ten to fifteen minutes a day.
listen to many songs, even some classical music and what is heard is chords. Not the melody in notes, that is left to the singer, most piano playing on songs is chords playing. Many teenagers learn to play guitar by learning chords and within a few days are playing their favorite songs. One person i know had his first guitar at 14 and was playing in a band within 3 weeks.
